Overwatch 2 Review: Score, Pros and Cons (2022)
Overwatch 2, released in 2022, changed the team size from six players to five and reworked many heroes. It also introduced a player-versus-environment mode with story missions, which was a big change for the series.
What works
- The five-player format makes matches faster and easier to coordinate.
- Heroes continue to be distinct, and new heroes add variety.
What does not
- Many players felt the sequel was too close to the original in content.
- Story missions were slower to deliver than players hoped.

Verdict
A solid sequel that is still finding its identity. Our score: 7.5 out of 10.
Tips for five-versus-five matches
With five players per team, every position matters more. Plan a simple composition, such as a tank, two damage heroes and two supports, and communicate changes in the team plan. Stay near your allies in fights, because a lone hero is an easy target. Use the map and objectives to decide when to push and when to hold.
What to expect from the story modes
The player-versus-environment missions add story and cooperative challenges, but the pace is slower than the competitive modes. Play them with friends who enjoy the setting and the characters. If you only want fast competitive matches, you can focus on the main modes and skip the story content.
