Call of Duty: Modern Warfare (2019) Review: Score and Verdict
The 2019 Modern Warfare reboot brought the series back to a gritty, grounded tone. Its campaign covers a global conflict with cinematic set pieces, and its multiplayer returned to fast, precise movement and weapon customisation.
What works
- The gunsmith system lets you build weapons that suit your style.
- Multiplayer maps are well designed for both close fights and long lanes.
- The campaign has strong moments and varied locations.
What does not
- Campaign story beats are predictable and some scenes feel overlong.
- The battle pass and bundles encourage spending.

Who should play it
Fans of fast arcade-style multiplayer and cinematic single-player shooters.
Verdict
A strong return to form for the series, with excellent gunplay. Our score: 8.0 out of 10.
Tips for multiplayer
Customise a few weapons with attachments that suit your play, such as a recoil reduction for longer fights and a faster aim-down-sights option for close quarters. Learn the map flow by playing a few matches in the same mode, and move between lanes rather than staying in one spot. Listen for enemy footsteps and use the sound cues to avoid walking into fights unprepared.
Campaign value
The campaign is short, but it has strong set pieces and a clear sense of place. Playing it on a higher difficulty adds challenge without changing the core story. If you only want multiplayer, the campaign still helps you understand the game's weapons and movement.
