DOOM (2016) Review: Score, Pros and Cons
DOOM, released in 2016, rebooted the series with a focus on fast, aggressive combat. Its glory kills reward players who stay close to enemies, and its weapon upgrades encourage experimentation.
What works
- The combat loop of health, ammo and glory kills is one of the best in the genre.
- Level design balances open arenas with tight corridors.
- Its soundtrack and presentation are strong.
What does not
- The story is thin, and some later levels feel repetitive.

Players who want fast, intense single-player shooting with a strong combat loop.
Verdict
An energetic reboot with excellent combat. Our score: 9.0 out of 10.
Tips for combat
Use glory kills to recover health and ammo, and vary your weapons so you do not run out of the right one. Keep moving to avoid heavy attacks, and use the environment to reach higher ground. The combat rewards quick decisions, so think about which enemy to take down first and which weapon to use.
Replaying for challenge
Higher difficulties and hidden collectibles add replay value. Challenges unlock upgrades that improve the core loop, so replaying a level with a different goal can make the game feel new again.
