Type the pinyin, then choose the Chinese word, the same way a pinyin input method works on your computer.

How it works: type the pinyin without spaces (for example nihao). Candidates appear. Press Space to pick the first one, or 1–5 to pick a candidate. Backspace edits the pinyin and Esc clears it.

This simulator uses a built-in list of 120 common words and characters. A real IME on your computer has a much larger dictionary and may rank candidates differently.

About pinyin typing

Pinyin is the way Chinese sounds are written with Latin letters, for example nihao = 你好. Most Chinese computer users type pinyin into an input method, which turns the letters into Chinese characters. This page practises the spelling and the choice of words. Tone marks are not typed here.
