Mega Man 2 Famicom review

1988 · Capcom · Action platformer · Updated 2026-10-22

9.5/10

The best-known Mega Man game on the Famicom, with eight robot masters and a well-judged difficulty curve.

Mega Man 2 gives you eight stages, each guarded by a robot master with its own weapon. Part of the joy is choosing the order and learning which weapon exposes which boss. Beating one boss gives you a weapon that helps against the others, so the whole game feels like one big puzzle.

The controls are precise and the difficulty is fair. Each stage introduces a new idea, and the boss fights are short and clear. Dr. Wily's fortress at the end is harder but never unfair.

The soundtrack is among the best on the console, and the sprites are full of character. It remains the reference point for the series.
